Japan’s J-ICS: A structural shift in Japan’s life market

Japan has seen momentous changes in its life re-insurance markets the past years. The J-ICS (Japan Insurance Capital Standard) came into effect in March and has introduced a new economic value-based solvency regulation for the market.

Meanwhile, the country has seen a flourishing asset intensive reinsurance (AIR) business from insurers seeking to shed unwanted risks of their books to a willing reinsurance cohort. As the volume and variety of AIR deals continues to grow the FSA has also introduced new guidelines for this market.

Life-Re’s Japan webinar will examine the country’s life re-insurance market under the new regulations.

Key themes:

  • The impact of the J-ICS on Japan’s life insurance market and its growing role in spurring reinsurance in this increasingly international business
  • How are Japan’s regulators and insurers adapting to international conditions and connecting with the broader markets?
  • Key features of Japan’s AIR business and its usefulness as a tool for insurers
  • Growth prospects and regulatory attitudes towards AIR in Japan
